Captain John Z. Kafouros / President
Captain John Kafouros has been involved in the Maritime industry since 1978 when, while still in high school, he signed onboard an oceanographic vessel as engine room wiper. Graduating from Texas A & M Maritime Academy with a degree in Maritime Transportation and a license as a U.S. Deck Officer in 1983, John progressed from deck officer to Ship's Master, running various types of vessels all over the world. Between contracts over the years, Capt. Kafouros also instructed courses such as Advanced Ship Handling, Bridge Team Management and Pollution Response at the STAR center marine simulator.

Captain Kafouros eventually came ashore as Port Captain for a 10-vessel fleet operating in the Caribbean. In 1993, he was appointed President and CEO of Alco Marine, a publicly held full-service shipping company. In 1996, he formed what is today Meridian Ship Managers. In addition to shipboard and shoreside managerial experience, Captain Kafouros is proficient in all aspects of regulatory requirements including USCG, USPH, OSHA, Pollution Response, ISM code and SOLAS requirements. With years of shipboard and shoreside management experience, Captain Kafouros has combined his vessel management skills with his formal business training to achieve a harmonious relationship between vessel operations and overall business goals.
